Event

The Event content type is used for adding events to an events calendar. The events calendar will be able to be filtered by event type. The Event view will default to a list view, but can be toggled to a calendar view. Events will be filterable by Event Type. Events will be colour coded in view, based on these Event Types.

Event Types: 

  • Business Events and Workshops 
  • Commemorative Dates and Flag Raisings 
  • Community Engagements 
  • City Events,, Festivals and Celebrations
  • Community Events 

 

Adding an Event

Once logged in, go to the Drupal Admin toolbar and navigate to Content > Add content > Event

Fill in the necessary fields:

  1. Title: Required For the name of the event. 
  2. Event details
    1. Start- and end time and dates
    2. All day or repeatable (eg. weekly, monthly)
  3. Event type (drop down)
  4. Hide on homepage (toggle): When checked, this Event will not appear in the homepage Events view.
  5. Image: Optional 
    1. Click Add media button
    2. Either search by Name in the field on your site or click Choose File in the Add file field to upload a new image
    3. Clicking Choose file will allow you to upload an image from your desktop
    4. Select the image you want to upload, and click the Open button
    5. In the Add or select media window include:
      1. Name: Required field. This is the name of your image without the file type or without use to dashes for spaces (eg. Placeholder Image, not placeholder-image.jpg)
      2. Alternative text (Alt text): Short description of the image used by screen readers and displayed when the image is not loaded. This is important for accessibility. See Tips for writing ALT text
      3. Attributes
        1. Categories - this is an optional way to categorize documents 
        2. Tags - this is an optional way to categorize documents
        3. Click Save and insert
    6. Location
    7. Description: Optional
  6. Once you have filled out the above fields, select the Publish button at the top of the page.

Editing a Content Type

  1. To edit a specific node, click on Content in the Drupal toolbar.
  2. Filter content type dropdown by Event.
  3. Click the Filter button.
  4. Click edit to the right of your specific item in the Operations column or click the Title of your item and then click the Edit button.
  5. Make your desired edits. 
  6. Once done, click the Publish button at the top of the page

 

Submit an Event

  1. Residents/Community members can submit an event via the Submit an Event form
  2. Once filled out the submission notifications are emailed to events@campbellriver.ca
  3. A Campbell River Publisher can then click the notification link in the the email to be directed to the site
  4. Once logged in, review the submitted details and edit as needed
  5. Click Publish to post on the site and populate the Events Calendar
